Joie’s Etsy Store Now Open!

by Joie on Jan.14, 2010, under Studio

This blog has been quiet the last few months, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been up to exciting things! Having seen how successful my prints were at the 151 Midtown Art Show last November, I decided it was high time to stick my toes in the water of internet sales.

http://joieart.etsy.com

Etsy.com is a website dedicated to the sale of handmade items. I thought it would be the best platform from which to begin selling my prints. Currently there are four prints for sale, but there will be more as the week winds down. I also only accept Paypal as a payment method– but hopefully that will be remedied soon.

There’s lots more fun news, commissions, and new art that’ll be posted in coming weeks. I’ve got plans formulated that I’m very excited about! Thanks for stopping by again.

Vinny Update: Greyscale

by Joie on Oct.10, 2009, under comics

For those of you who have been eagerly awaiting news on Vinny #1, here is the official word, finally. Of course, about a month ago I posted about the Proof Copy of Vinny that we had received. One of the writers/editors, Josh, had a chance to test it out amongst some professionals in the comic book world. They had lots of helpful feedback of course, which we’re really thankful for.

We’ve got some changes to make to the issues before it can be printed. They’re all changes that are worth it, especially in the art department. Josh had originally wanted a more cartoony look for the book, but we decided to add some depth to the art by adding greyscale “color” to it. And what easier and more fun way for me than to use watercolors?

Thus far it has improved the quality of the art nearly threefold. It doesn’t take long to do, but definitely adds a level of life and depth to it that it lacked so sorely before. I’m very excited to see what it looks like when it’s finished. Of course there are writing and editing changes that Josh and Matt are implementing as well, but as a whole the final quality of the book will be much higher because of it. This does mean that the official release date will be pushed back some, but I feel it’s worth it to wait and release a better product than to rush.

As of right now I am still in the process of painting the pages, and they are being relettered. Josh and Matt are brainstoming about the writing, and there is a possibility of an Issue #0 being released in the near future as well, to really introduce readers to the characters and story before the main series begins.

I thank everyone supporting the project for their patience– it will be well worth the wait, I promise! Please stay tuned for more updates in the near future.

I wanted to remind my readers to follow me on Twitter! I post quite a lot of art, Vinny, and website-related material on my feed, including snapshots of what I’m working on at the time! It’s a fun way to see what sort of things I’m up to in between posts here on my blog.

If you have a Twitter account and would like for me to follow you as well, make sure to let me know. I like keeping in touch with all my friends.

Another Facelift for JoieArt.net

by Joie on Oct.03, 2009, under Uncategorized

I’ve just given JoieArt.net another facelift in favor of something a bit more professional. I know blog aren’t supposed to change their look this often, but JoieArt is still a relatively new blog and so hopefully it will only have positive effects instead of negative.

This particular theme is more streamlined, professional, and easier to organize. It also forced me to revamp my categories and add tags, but that’s something I should have done to begin with. I’m still tweaking and adding things as I go, but hopefully this can be a theme I can stick with for quite awhile.

This theme was designed by Samk.ca, and is quite lovely.
