New Card Game: Pantheon
by Joie on Jan.19, 2012, under Products, Shows
Exciting news! As most of you know, I work for a company called SignalFire Studios which is a start-up tabletop gaming company that publishes role playing and card games. Awhile back I did some card art for them for an upcoming game, and after several delays, it has finally been released! Here’s an excerpt from SignalFire Studios‘s website about it:
Pantheon is a card game for 2-5 players created by veteran game designer Timothy Brown (co-creator of the Dark Sun campaign setting), developed by Jamie Chambers with graphic design by Digger Hayes, featuring art by Lindsay Archer, Michael Bielaczyc, and Joie Brown.
In Pantheon you start with a fledgling ancient culture. Grow your population, build temples, advance your civilization, and wage war on your enemies! There are many paths to victory, but when the game ends only the strongest pantheon will triumph. It features gods from ancient Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Chinese, and Indian mythology.
How exciting, right? My art is up there with the fabulous, famous, and talented Lindsay Archer! All of the artists that worked on this game are amazingly talented, and it was an honor getting to work alongside them, even though my part was trivial in comparison.
The best part is that you can buy your own copy for only $5! Right now the game has been released as a Print & Play Edition, meaning you buy the digital files and print the deck in your home, or at your local Staples. It’s a really fun way to try out a great new game (that features my art) without having to break the bank! For those of you who would prefer to buy a physically printed deck, stay tuned… they will be available soon!
Website Revamp! JoieArt.net’s New Design
by Joie on Jul.29, 2011, under Articles, News
Well, I have made major changes to the website in the last week. After getting some great feedback, I decided to seriously clean up around here. Things are not 100% finished, and I’ve still got quite a lot of tinkering to do with the code, but the basic idea is here.
What’s new:
A clean, new streamlined design with less distractions. Entirely new color scheme. Brand new “logo” for re-branding on all my business cards and promotional materials. Landing page is no longer the blog, but my portfolio selection page. Three portfolios instead of one. Major culling of portfolios to present only my best work!
What still needs to be fixed:
Color tweaking on things, especially in the comments. Adding the rest of the new pieces to my portfolio. Small layout bugs here and there. Re-categorization of old pieces of artwork so visitors can find additional artwork here on my blog.
I’m really happy with the new layout so far. I feel it looks a lot more professional and is more effective than my last layout. If you notice anything not working, please leave a comment and let me know!
Kennesaw State University Alumni Show
by Joie on Oct.18, 2010, under Articles, Shows
This is almost two weeks late, but Kennesaw State University had their annual alumni show, and I was in it! I was unfortunately not able to attend the opening, but I was lucky enough to have some friends that grabbed a photo for me! Check it out, I’m hanging right next to Kelly McKernan! My piece was Autumn Ballerina, and was completed early this year. I like the way the custom framing looks! Thanks for having me, KSU!
Relocation to San Francisco
by Joie on Aug.22, 2010, under Articles, News
Whew– moving across the country is not an easy endeavor nor for the faint of heart. I had to get rid of 90% of everything I owned (save a few items I left with my mother or Joe), pack it all up, and ship it to myself in approximately 13 boxes. Originally I’d wanted to UHaul it to bring a few pieces of furniture with me, but that ended up being far more costly (not to mention how much sanity it’d cost, too). So then I packed all of my clothes and shoes left into two checked suitcases, hopped a plane, bought some IKEA stuff, and got settled. Gee, I make it sound so much easier than it really was. Really parts of it were closer to some kind of bad dream.

I’m pleased to announce that my piece Autumn Ballerina (pictured at left) has been accepted into the Kennesaw State University 7th Biennial Visual Arts Alumni Exhibition. This will be my first year participating in an Alumni show for KSU since I graduated in 2008, and I’m very excited to have this opportunity! I regret to say that I won’t be present at the opening reception as I’ll be on the other side of the country, but nevertheless I’m sure it’ll be a great show and a great reception!
KSU Alumni Art Show
Opening reception: October 7th 5 PM – 8 PM in the KSU Fine Arts Gallery (Free admission)
