Prentice Will be Cleanin’
To “California Dreamin” by The Mamas & The Papas
All the cheese is brown,
Sheppard’s pie turned grey.
I’ll go for a walk,
Later on today.
Don’t be misinformed.
I will come save the day.
Prentice will be cleanin’,
at five fifteen, Friday!
So, please stop by the fridge,
You’ll pass along the way.
Please, grab your cream cheese and peas,
and your berry puree.
You know your pasta will grow mold,
and will be thrown away.
Prentice will be cleanin’,
at five fifteen, Friday!
Your Chinese turned brown,
and Pad Thai is grey.
I’ll go for a walk,
Later on today.
Don’t say I didn’t tell you!
Before you leave today,
Prentice will be cleanin’,
at five fifteen, Friday!
One of my best friends and fellow bloggers, Prentice Osborne has this fun thing she does where she writes what she calls a “Fridge Poem” every Friday for her office. She has to clean out the fridge at 5:15, and instead of writing a boring email to remind her coworkers to pick up their leftovers, she makes it fun by writing poems and stories! I love to chip in and do an illustration for them, but usually they’re just cute little sketches. This week, however, I went all out. So here is the illustration and the accompanying poem in their full glory!
Characterized Figure Drawing 3
by Joie on Nov.08, 2010, under Classwork, Sketches, Studio
I am chugging out so much work that I’m having issues posting it all. So here’s a huge dump of more characterized figure drawings and they are most likely out of order. The worst part is that I have at least twice this much that I haven’t even photographed yet.

It’s interesting to keep pushing this style of drawing. I’m definitely working outside of my box, and I think my characterization is getting marginally better with practice. More tomorrow.
A Charcoal Fabric Study
by Joie on Oct.14, 2010, under Classwork, Fine Art, Studio

>> Finished study

>> Preliminary sketch (mobile photo, sorry for the bad quality)

>> Beginning to find the planes and values (mobile photo, sorry for the bad quality)
Who likes to draw fabric?! I do!! If I may say so, I think I’m pretty good at it. I know that I did a bit of a halo effect with the background, but I intend to go back and revisit that. But for the most part? I kicked this fabric’s butt. I have some thoughts on that: with fabric, there is no preconceived shape like there might be with say, a bottle, a lemon, or a jar. There can only be direct translation with the shape and so your brain simply cannot “assume” what it should look like. You MUST actually look at what you’re drawing if you want it to look right.
Thoughts?
Perspective Practice!
by Joie on Oct.09, 2010, under Classwork, Concept Art, Studio

>> Final line drawing for two point perspective practice.

>> Two point gridwork.

>> Some construction work on the bookshelves.

>> The full overlay showing all construction.
Then the next week I added a indoor artificial lighting. It looked pretty cool. I’ll post that later!
More Characterized Figure Drawing
by Joie on Oct.09, 2010, under Classwork, Sketches, Studio
This is part one of my blogsplosion catch-up. I’ve got a monstrous backlog of classwork to share. This is more like the last characterized figure drawing. Fun!
