I started this piece back in November of last year around the time that I was participating in the 151 Midtown Arts Show. As a matter of fact, anyone visiting the show may well have seen me working on this piece live. These progress pictures were originally uploaded to my Twitpic Account linked to my Twitter Account. If you haven’t yet followed me, I invite you to! I frequently share in-progress shots and tiny glimpses into things I’m currently doing. In addition, there is also my Facebook Fan Page which I also invite you to join– I’m cooking up a fun contest that is available only to those who follow me on Twitter of Facebook! More news to follow…

This piece started out as an idea to complete a ballerina painting to represent each season, however it somehow took me two full seasons to finish this one. I suppose it’s just one of those things– life gets in the way. I’m in the middle of a day-job transition and am looking into grad school. Plus, within this time frame, I’ve moved, opened an online store, and been dealing with a handful of commissions.

Anyway, this is a fairy-esque ballerina who represents the spirit of Autumn. I made her outfit a little more modern in style because I didn’t feel that a true pancake tutu would fit the scene. And of course, she has a Welsh Corgi escort– no fairy should be without one! This was completed with Windsor & Newton watercolors on Bristol Board.

Prints of this piece will be available shortly, and will available at all of my upcoming shows this year.

I have added another section to the Portfolio page called Graphics Work. It’s meant to house some of the graphics work and web design I have done over the years. Originally I had not intended to make those things part of this website, but I have changed my mind. Design is a big part of my art, and I find myself doing graphics frequently in my art career. I added some of my oldest works, and will be adding some of the newer items and photo restorations/manipulations soon.

http://joieart.etsy.com

Etsy.com is a website dedicated to the sale of handmade items. I thought it would be the best platform from which to begin selling my prints. Currently there are four prints for sale, but there will be more as the week winds down. I also only accept Paypal as a payment method– but hopefully that will be remedied soon.

There’s lots more fun news, commissions, and new art that’ll be posted in coming weeks. I’ve got plans formulated that I’m very excited about! Thanks for stopping by again.

This evening I had a fun adventure in the world of live broadcast entertainment. I joined up with UStream.tv, and created my very own show named Joie in the Studio. I ran a test show to figure out how things worked, and it seemed to be a small hit!

Please see more information about the show here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/joie-in-the-studio

Here is a clip from the first episode of Joie in the Studio:

I would like to do more live broadcasts on a regular basis. What are the best times and days to do this? I don’t want to compete with major TV programming. What about an early Wednesday evening time? Tell me your thoughts.

In closing, I also have a new YouTube Account where the clips of my show will be posted. Please visit me!

Sometimes you just get struck by the urge to be completely silly. And silly happened. Boredom and access to a paint chat brought forth a spew of silly art from both myself and a fellow artist/friend of mine. And then we decided to draw some Harry Potter.

Paint Chat HP Insanity — By Joie and Lauren

Considering that we only had access to mice and NOT tablets, as well as a very primitive paint chat (AND I had to use my right hand instead of my left), the fact that we were able to produce anything even semi-recognizeable is a miracle.

And of course, some of the ridiculousness was done on purpose. I mean, c’mon. If you’re gonna be silly, you might as well go all the way.

Our activities insipired us to want to find a decent Oekaki board to join… anyone know of any? Or, alternatively, maybe I could add an Oekaki to my website? Thoughts? Pros? Cons? Interest level?

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve updated, but I’ve been super busy with my day job as of late. I am back from California though, and I really enjoyed Comic Con! It was a shame that I had to leave Saturday night in order to catch my flight home, but there’s always next year.

These crests are personal crests that I designed during my trip. I had just finished reading George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones, and was inspired by the idea of every family having their own sigil/themed animal and thought I’d try it out for myself. The first crest is my own, and the others belong to two of my best friends from California.

They’re just done in pencil, but they were fun and fast to hammer out. I do intend to do larger, painted versions of them as well. I’ve got a few more that I’m doing for other friends as well, and have had lots of fun ideas! I wonder if anyone would be interested in commissioning me to do one for them? Hopefully I’ll have a painted version up soon so you all can see what they’d look like.

Vinny news later this week!

I’m also working on Vinny #2, but I thought it’d be fun to share some other side projects I’ve had going on, small as they may be. Breaks up the monotony, ya know?

This a snapshot of the next two Snippets that I’ve been working on. I swear they won’t all be dogs. Really. I promise! They are watercolors with a tad of inks, of course. The bottom one is a Golden Retriever, and the top will be a basset hound.

This is a silly cartoon corgi that I felt like doing the other day. It’s not officially finished, as I’ve still got some painting to do on her ears and tongue. I thought it was cute… but of course it was cute. It’s inspired by something in my life that’s equally as cute:

<3 my pup.

More soon!
