Drawing from Imagination

by on Jan.29, 2011, under Classwork, Concept Art, Digital Painting, Studio

I’m finally playing catchup with the rest of the work that I did last semester for the Academy of Art University. Below are the images that I’ve done for a particular class called “Drawing From the Imagination” and mostly focused on perspective and drawing humans from various angles.

>>Zombies Attack – This was my final illustration for the class, based on a short passage that we had to adhere to. It’s an image of two young kids entering a morgue, and the girl’s amulet begins to glow. Unspecified by the text, the amulet may be what causes the corpses to come back as zombies. It’s done from a two-point perspective with a Dutch Angle added to create drama. It was fully drawn and painted in Photoshop. There’s a lot of things I would like to fix about it, including a few pieces of the image that look unfinished and were caused by the Dutch Angle.

>>Less Mew Mew, More Pew Pew – This was an assignment where I had to design and draw two different robots; one in two point vertical and one in three point perspective. I really enjoy it. It’s done in inks.

>>Schoolgirl Brawl – This assignment involved drawing two figures in combat in several stages. The first was drawing the figures nude, then clothed, and then adding the background. Here is the final image in pencil.

>>No Reflection – This assignment was based on a passage of text that described a teenage boy picking up his prom date, but he isn’t visible in her mirror. It is insinuated that he may be a vampire because of it. This image is done in inks.

More drawings and conceptual sketches after the cut. There are some images that may be considered NSFW because of some nudity.

This was one of the two conceptual sketches done for the image above.

This is the other conceptual sketch, and was done in two point perspective as opposed to the two point vertical of the final image. The general consensus was that the two point vertical held more drama and suited the image better, which is why it was chose as opposed to this one.

This is the first stage of the above image that involved two nude figures in combat. The poses didn’t work well enough because they seemed to be flying or floating in the air. The poses were changed, then clothed, then put in a background.

This is an assignment where I had to draw a mostly nude person in two point perspective. I drew a teenage boy playing video games, but it ended up being mostly one point perspective as opposed to two point.

This is an assignment where I had to draw a mostly nude person in two point vertical perspective. I messed up pretty badly with it though. The woman I drew ended up looking a lot more like a child because of the way that I shortened her features. After some feedback from the professor I learned how best to do it next time so that it looks more like a person in two point vertical as opposed to a child or very short woman.

This is an assignment where I had to draw a mostly nude person in third point perspective. I picked a little girl in a bathing suit, but still didn’t quite get her to look correct in the perspective.

This is an assignment where I had a photo of a person in one point perspective and I had to redraw them in two point perspective.

All in all the class was amazing and really helped me understand perspective on a more basic level. I hope to improve my knowledge of human anatomy so that I can better turn people in space after this. More posts coming soon with more work!
